How does the meters to feet conversion work? Formula and example
Converting meters to feet rests on one fixed relationship: a foot is exactly 0.3048 meters. To turn meters into feet, you divide the number of meters by 0.3048, which is the same as multiplying by 3.280839895.
The full formula: feet = meters ÷ 0.3048. The other way round: meters = feet × 0.3048.
Example: you want to know how many feet 1.80 m is. You substitute: 1.80 ÷ 0.3048 = 5.91 feet. That does not mean "5 feet and 91 inches" – the decimal part is a fraction of a foot. To get inches, you multiply it by 12: 0.91 × 12 = 11 inches, so 1.80 m is 5 ft 11 in.

No. Newton-meters (Nm) and foot-pounds (ft-lb) are units of torque, not length, so this converter does not handle them. The names only look similar because a meter and a foot appear in both.
How do you convert meters to feet in your head?
The simplest way is to multiply the number of meters by 3.3, which is the same as multiplying by 3 and adding another 10%. For 5 m that gives 15 + 1.5 = 16.5 ft, against an exact 16.40 ft – slightly high, but close enough to get your bearings. Use the converter when you need precision.
